Marvin Ammons Obituary

Marvin Floyd Ammons, age 75, a life-long resident of Perdido, AL died Sunday April 21, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a retired mechanic with the Baldwin County Board of Education and after retirement a long-hauled truck driver. More importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born on November 10, 1948, Floyd lived and raised his family in Perdido, AL. Although service to his country took him outside the US and his work as a truck driver took him all over the country, his favorite place was home sitting on his front porch with his wife Marie. From there, they would watch the deer, listen to the birds, and offer a wave to all who passed by. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, reading, and puzzle solving. His greatest joy was his role as father, and he took pride in watching the accomplishments of his three girls. He was always there when they needed him and stood solidly behind them even when they thought they didn’t.

Affectionately, known as Papa, he relished his role as grandfather. His jokester side always came out when playing with his four grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, watching them at their school or sports activities, and teaching them from all his years of wisdom. They will all miss him but are left with countless wonderful memories.

His is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Ammons of Perdido, AL; his three girls Jessica Ammons (John) Hagemeier of Spanish Fort, AL, Marsha Ammons (Tim) Strickland of Daphne, AL and Stephanie Ammons of Montgomery, AL; four grandchildren, James Hagemeier, Vivian Hagemeier, Bennett Hagemeier, and Audrey Strickland; three brothers, Walter Ammons, Ray Ammons, and Clint Ammons; one sister Ilene Niedergeses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jordan and Myrtle Ammons, two brothers Lloyd Ammons and Roger Ammons, and one sister Sheila Ammons Wooten.

Services will be held Thursday April 25, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Sister Helen Stewart officiating. The family will accept friends and family from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hadley, Marty Hadley, Jack Cox, Stephen Vickery, Byron Ammons, and Wendell Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Stewart and Carl Vickery.

The family would like to thank the nurses and physicians with North Baldwin Infirmary, Mobile Infirmary, and Gentiva Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Floyd during his illness.

“I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going” John 14:2
